Maison Le Voleur Pinot Noir 2015 – “House of Thieves”
I live to design for the passionate wine creator. That is exactly who Christophe Ranacourt is. I met him several months ago on a business trip in which we had the most delightful discussion about wine – mine for design and his for the creation of the finest blends. He wanted his labels redesigned and I was inspired to take on this task.
Christophe isn’t new to thievery, that is, the commoner stealing his ideas & techniques. I asked about the new name and we joked about naming it the “House of Thieves.” I asked what the French would be (as Christophe is from Normandy) and he said “Maison Le Voleur.” We agreed that those who steal ideas from artists (of all disciplines) is the most offensive.
A traditional approach developed this concept through using classic typography and dark, burnished gold foil stamping on cream colored textured paper. Through this design, he brings his cherished childhood chateau right into the presentation of his offerings.
The bottom images show the technical notes, or the tasting notes that were designed for his distributors and for his upcoming website.
Social Media Strategies Summit BLOG / #SMSsummit
I redesigned the standard blog logo header for the Social Media Strategies Summit BLOG.
Below is the previously used blog logo. While I was responsible for designing the iconic social media icon globe, I did not create the logo as fixed in tangible form seen here. The type treatment is basic and doesn’t bring as much attention to the word “BLOG” as I would like to have seen.
Not to worry! I redesigned the the header to the current logo below. I made the word BLOG the most important portion of this logo while cleverly working in the globe as the “O”. A closer view as to how the logo is working on the website.

Creating innovative identity by combining DNA base-pairs within a series of chains.
DNA and its base pairs of ATCG within the linked chains immediately suggests healthcare is secure. The Blockchain Health Summit is about transforming health and life sciences through blockchain technology.
The identity starts with a type driven logo with a word mark of an inter-twined “BC” with a medical + symbol contained within it. Shown below are the stacked and horizontal layouts along with a solid interpretation when the background image is not being used.

The digital illustration that started it all. Chrysler Building + Cola Bud = Chrysler Bud
I developed this simple illustration several years ago to brand and identify a New York City cannabis conference. Regretfully, it was not utilized by the conference organizer in a prominent manner across the marketing platform.

The original illustration and concept was used for the Cannabis Business Summit Fall Regional NYC 2015. The illustration was used in the brochure on the speaker page and sponsor passport and was colored a dark green.
Cannavest // The Cannabis Investment Symposium for Institutional Investors & Family Offices
Ligature logo + Sponsorship sales guide
I developed the identity for Cannavest, a symposium for investors and cannabis companies where their products, services & investment funds are showcased. I initially did not have much to go upon but I needed to only use the approved identity color palette. Cannavest is an event is held along side the Cannabis Business Summit™ and Expo.
Initial ligature sketches were made from using Proxima Nova fonts and connecting the CV letters. The interior was filled with the image of the cola bud with an overlay of orange and green.
With the simple, yet effective, ligature logo, a dramatic shadow and strong typography created the sponsorship sales guide.

What’s in your DNA? Base pairs, of course!
Just when I never thought I’d use my undergraduate minor in biology, that rudimentary knowledge of DNA and base pairs is being used in this illustration below.
The idea of Blockchain Health (#BlockchainHealth) is security within the health care industry. This illustration below initially had numbers in the chains and not the base pairs of “ATCG” (Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine & Guanine). I contacted the illustrator and asked if the illustration could be altered and this is the result of the collaborative effort. The base pairs are now in the chain! It is perfect.

Pop-Up Trade Show/Expo Banner Design (33×78) for the NCIA (@NCIA #NCIA)
I received a request to create a 33×78 banner. I was initially given their most recent class photo taken in Washington DC and to use this in the banner (top photo). I submitted several potential design layouts but the photo was not quite working within the live area. I decided to combine 2 photos to better address the abundance of live area within the banner. I silhouetted the class photo (using the pen tool) and then removed the sky from the state capitol building below and combined them.
Next, I started working on the typography. I wanted focus on the word “Advocating” and tried different techniques and colors to achieve a 60’s Avant Garde style.
Then Vertical (turned 90 degrees).
But what if I just stacked the letters by cutting the words into 3 rows and used these letter forms really, really large? The human brain can process this. It will read this word as “Advocating.”
With the photos combined, the “Advocating” typography and the other required elements for the signage, I was able to create a bold statement piece for the NCIA (National Cannabis Industry Association) to display at their booth at trade shows and events.
