Social Media Strategies Summit Public Agencies & Government

Branding and identity development for the Social Media Strategies Summit. This logo was developed for the Public Agencies & Government portfolio of the #SMSSummit series.

I developed a circular badge style logo to share that same familiar presence as the presidential seal.

Shown against both dark  and light backgrounds.

Social media of the past [left]  versus social media of today [right] for our presidents.

Late Summer 2020 – A Typographical Presentation

The latest works from the LMI+D creative studio are presented here through animation and static imagery.

LMI+D Branded Stories

A new logo for BrandStrat Conference using bold colors choices in black and cyan along with a more modern font updated the previous look from a few years past. The client, GSMI, was pleased with the result and the look of the logo reversed while it occupies the website.

The “Direct Connect” logo was created for a member benefit for members of the NCIA – The National Cannabis Industry Association.  You can see the logo in place here:  DIRECT CONNECT.

Finally, Marchesi, which was launched earlier this year, was a design based upon modern luxury using gold foil throughout the application of the logo on labeling.

LMI+D is now a certified Women Owned Business (WBE)

Graphic Design & Innovation

I have been approved for the WBENC Certification!!!!

Linda Modica Innovation and Design LLC is certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the nation’s largest third party certifier of businesses owned and operated by women in the US.  WBENC recognizes the commitment to supplier diversity that is embraced by corporations and government agencies today, which can add diversity to your supply chain.

Linda Modica Innovation and Design LLC provides brand development, visual story telling and innovative design solutions to your high-profile conferences, events, and trade shows. Contact: http://www.lmid.co // linda@lmid.co //

I decided to start the certification process last September. I downloaded all information in PDF format from the WBENC website and started to gather the information that was required. My business needed a DUN number and applied for one for free through the Dun and Bradstreet website.  My journey to certification meant  a trip to my bank to notarize a sworn affidavit and to obtain a copy of my bank signature card. I hadn’t updated my resume in years, so I did that. I created a visual history of my business and submitted that as well.

LMI+D Visual History PDF here>>> LMI+D History

Tax returns, PNL statements, photocopies of my passport and drivers license (proving that I am indeed, a female) as well as copies of my formation papers for my LLC and finally a signature on the weblink user agreement was what I needed to start the application process. I did need to create a SAM account (Systems of Award Management) and have it in the active status.

The entire document gathering process took about 6 weeks and I completed the application just before Thanksgiving. I had my interview on March 2nd which completed the certification process.

To celebrate my certification, I have created  a 3D sandwich type rendering and placed it with the Women Owned Logo.  LMI+D is a Women Owned Business!
Basic LMI+D logo with the WBENC Certified Logo. So proud of this achievement!
Me just being happy with both logos to celebrate this certification.

Branding + Identity Graphic Design, Children's Books Design, Graphic Design & Innovation
Creative Direction & Design for the Marketing Promotion of “JONI: The Lyrical Life of Joni Mitchell” by Selina Alko

I had the recent privilege of working with Selina Alko, a children’s book author and illustrator, on her promotional piece for her latest work about the legendary Canadian singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell. She wanted a circular piece to celebrate the style of vinyl records and the announcement of her forthcoming book.

Marchesi 2017 Chardonnay – BRANDING & IDENTITY

Graphic Design & Innovation, Wine Identity & Design
Marchesi 2017 Chardonnay – il mazzo di fiori

The Marchesi family isn’t new to making wine, but is new in the California, Sta. Rita Valley region and the American market. The creative process began earlier this year through conversations on skype  and a few brief east-coast meetings (non-direct fights to Italy).  My studio proposed to create a modern floral design to embody the meaning of  “il mazzo di fiori”.  Translated from Italian, it means “the bouquet of flowers.”

Soft, feminine colors of pinks and peaches colored the line drawings of the illustration.  Gold foil was used prominently against the deep brown label to capture attention, romance, and the feminine quality of this offering.

Rosario (Marchesi) was instantly captivated by the simplicity this communicated to the potential customer.

Bellissima!

Blockchain Health – Brand, Identity & Logo Design

Branding + Identity Graphic Design, Conference, Trade Show + Expo Design, Graphic Design & Innovation, Pharmaceutical Design
Creating innovative identity by combining DNA base-pairs within a series of chains.

DNA and its base pairs of ATCG  within the linked chains immediately suggests  healthcare is secure.  The Blockchain Health Summit is about transforming health and life sciences through blockchain technology.

The identity starts with a type driven logo with a word mark of an inter-twined “BC” with a medical + symbol contained within it. Shown below are the stacked and horizontal layouts along with a solid interpretation when the background image is not being used.

Pop-up banner signage design for on-site welcoming and sponsorship acknowledgement.  33×79.

Type driven  24×36 sign for “HUN” thanking them for sponsoring the VIP dinner.

Sponsorship prospectus design.  Before the event happens, there must be support through sponsorship. Having impactful design, interactive design and solid content delivered through strong visuals sends a strong and complete marketing message.

A close-up view of an info graphic within the sponsorship prospectus.

Select interior pages of the sponsorship prospectus.

Sponsorship Passport graphic design.  The brand and identity is continued on all materials for this event. The passport is designed to create interactivity of the attendees with the sponsors at their booths. For all those who participate, there is a drawing at the end of the summit to win a prize.

24×26 foam core sign.

ADVOCATING // Pop-Up Banner Design for the NCIA

Cannabis Branding & Identity, Conference, Trade Show + Expo Design, Graphic Design & Innovation
Pop-Up Trade Show/Expo Banner Design (33×78) for the NCIA (@NCIA #NCIA)

I received a request to create a 33×78 banner.  I was initially given their most recent class photo taken in Washington DC and to use this in the banner (top photo).  I submitted several potential design layouts but the photo was not quite working within the live area. I decided to combine 2 photos to better address the abundance of  live area within the banner. I silhouetted the class photo (using the pen tool) and then removed the sky from the state capitol building below and combined them.

Next, I started working on the typography. I wanted focus on the word “Advocating” and tried different techniques and colors to achieve a 60’s Avant Garde style.

First Horizontal.

Then Vertical (turned 90 degrees).

But what if I just stacked the letters by cutting the words into 3 rows and used these letter forms really, really large? The human brain can process this. It will read this word as “Advocating.”

With the photos combined, the “Advocating” typography and the other required elements for the signage, I was able to create a bold statement piece for the NCIA (National Cannabis Industry Association) to display at their booth at trade shows and events.

"The worst thing you can do to anybody trying to be creative is to demand participation in their vision. " – Chuck Klosterman

"Quotes", Graphic Design & Innovation
“The worst thing you can do to anybody trying to be creative is to demand participation in their vision.”  – Chuck Klosterman

I came across this quote while working on a difficult design project. The concept was and execution was solid and aesthetically pleasing. To only be deconstructed into an abomination.  This quote completely summed up that moment of the outcome of that particular project.

There are many stories of how great concepts to straight to hell through external marketing decisions, design by committee teams (seen in non-profit structures), and the influential yet inexperienced know-it-all rookie.
Please feel free to comment with your great designed turned into an abomination below. I’d love to hear it.
